Naturally colorless, champagne-sherry (Skardu/Shigar pegmatites), golden-orange (Imperial), or rare natural cyclamen pink (Katlang, Pakistan); also vivid sky, Swiss, and London blue via treatment.
Pakistan is home to two world-famous geological types of topaz: (1) Hydrothermal calcite-hosted natural Chromium-bearing Pink Topaz from Katlang (Mardan District, KP), and (2) Miarolitic pegmatite Champagne/Colorless Topaz crystals from Shigar and Skardu (Gilgit-Baltistan).
Natural untreated Katlang Pink Topaz and terminated Shigar champagne topaz crystals on matrix (which naturally fade if left in direct sunlight unless stabilized) are iconic Pakistani treasures.
Rings, pendants, and earrings; protective settings are advised due to basal cleavage.
Natural Katlang pink and Imperial topaz are rare and prized unenhanced; almost all commercial blue topaz (Sky, Swiss, London Blue) is produced by irradiating and heating colorless topaz, and mystic/coated topaz has a surface film—all treatments are transparently disclosed.
Topaz has one direction of perfect basal cleavage: NEVER clean in an ultrasonic cleaner or expose to sharp knocks or thermal shock. Keep natural brown/champagne pegmatite topaz out of prolonged intense sunlight.
